Knife Sharpening Tools – Part III
The Steel Rod Sharpener.
A Steel Rod Sharpener, or as it
is sometimes call just Steel,
or Steel Sharpener, is a 10 – 12
inches long stainless steel rod with a handle.
It is used to clear all the
imperfections on the blade after
it has been sharpened with the
whetstone.
Again, when you use a steel
sharpener, place the blade at
a 21 – 23 degree angle and slide it
all the way from the bolster of
the blade to the tip.

Repeat this process ten times on
each side, and then another ten strokes
while alternating each side
once.
Do not apply pressure while doing
this process, all you have to do is glide
the blade on the stainless
steel surface of the sharpener to get the desired result.
At this point, you have reached
the point where your knife should be as
sharp as it can be.
You should be able to slice
through pretty much anything with ease.
There is one more step to the
sharpening process.
This step is more for appearance
then for sharpening.
It is the
Leather strap.
